A New Stochastic Model for Bus Rapid Transit Scheduling with Uncertainty

Nowadays, authorities of large cities in the world implement bus rapid transit (BRT) services to alleviate traffic problems caused by significant development urban areas. Therefore, a controller is required control and dispatche buses such BRT systems.. However, controllers are facing new challenges due inherent uncertainties passenger parameters as arrival times, demands, alighting fraction well running time vehicles between stops. Such may significantly increase operational cost inefficiencies services. In this paper, we focus on controller’s perspective propose stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model for scheduling find optimal departure under uncertainty. The objective function consists waiting traveling aims minimize total related passengers at any stop. From modeling perspective, method generate scenarios proposed MINLP model. Furthermore, from computational point view, an outer approximation algorithm solve demonstrate merits solution numerical results. This paper accurately reflect complexity problem first study, best our knowledge, that presents solves scheduling.
